Our ancestors followed the family avocation of agriculture
and commerce. In addition, Kurikes Geevarghese had
acquired from his forefathers knowledge in Astrology
and Mathematics. He had a unique personality and
was noted for his faith in God, honesty, Integrity,
Compassion, intelligence and ability to influence
others. By this time, Christians from other places
also migrated and settled down in Venmony. As a
result of common endeavor, a church in the name
of Virgin Mary was built and parish was formed.
This church was located to the west of the present
St. Mary’s Orthodox church (Valiapally) in
Buvaneth land.
Kurikes Geevarghese had only one son and the latter
had two sons, Geevarghese and Bersleeba. Bersleeba
remained unmarried. He was a scholar well versed
in Astrology and Mathematics. HE led the life of
a monk and subsequent generations have immensely
benefited from his knowledge. Thereafter till the
10th generation, each generation had only one son.
It is not out of place to mention that our forefathers
had a pre-eminent place in society, particularly
among the Syrian Christians. All of them strictly
observed the sacraments of the church. |
