They were denied the right to worship in the church.
So the Jacobites had to attend churches faraway.
For about two decades, this situation continued.
But our forefathers were firm in their stand of
holding onto their old faith. As a result, it became
very necessary to build a church for the Malankara
Jacobites at Venmony. For this purpose our forefather
Kottal Chacko Korala donated 59 cents of his land.
Moreover he made arrangements for his grandson Chacko
Geevarghese’s (second son of his eldest son
?Korala Chacko) ordination as priest. At this place
in the month od September 1896 (1072 ME), His Holiness
Mar Gregarious Metropolitan laid the foundation
for the church and, using bamboo and coconut leaves,
a church was built and service started. This church
was known as Mulampally or Kochupally. In the following
year, on the direction of Mr. Chacko Korala who
was bedridden, his sons Chacko and Geevarghese executed
the gift deed vide no.(740) dated 15th Vrichika
1073 ME. (AD 1897) in the Chengannoor sub registry
in favour of 14 persons who followed the Jacobite
faith. At that time the trustee of the church was
Kottal Korala Chacko and secretary was Kochandy
Geevarghese of Chooralvettathu.
In the meanwhile the judgment in the court case
concerning Valiapally (pazhayapally) between Jacobite
Group and Mrthoma group came and it was favorable
to the Jacobite group. |
